No obj does support verterx colors its just that it was not assinged on the model

And they are white, because .obj format doesn't support vertex colors.

Yep, It got revised somewhat recently.

When you open this hub area in SM64 map editor (Toad's tool 64 / Quad64) you can see that tower is separate object.
you have to extract all and then it works
