My guess is they just wanted a more versatile and comedic rich character to play around with, not one who's only real shtick is being everything Squidward wishes he was. From what I can tell, Lady Upturn is much less lucky than Squilliam and therefore lends herself to comedy easier due to frequent misfortunes. Plus, if I were writing a comedy show, I'd probably have more fun messing with a rich uptight Karen character than a snobby "I'm better than you at everything" type rival. Not saying Upturn is better than Squilliam because of all this (far from it), but I'm just trying to look at this the way the current writers probably do.

Even that episode itself was basically a cameo. He has a single line and contributes nothing to the plot. It's just that his later cameos were just so much smaller that that appearance seems major in comparison. At least in this game, he's used in a way that fits his character, being a rich guy at a party for elites. I don't understand why he's been so missing, he's the perfect antagonist for a Squidward focused episode, and their rivalry has always been one of the most interesting dynamics on the show imo. the fact that they basically made another rich character to use whenever a wealthy snob trope was needed over using him will never make sense to me. Nobody cares about that character, I don't even remember her name. Squilliam is iconic.

Friendly reminder that this game is the first time Squilliam has physically appeared in years. His last major non-cameo appearance was in the 2010 episode "Back to the Past".
