DJ in the house!
For this month's tip: some models use a technique called vertex coloring to add detail to models. Think of it like extra color information that is independent of the textures, which blends smoothly between each point on the model. Typically, these colors are multiplied against the textures, but they can be used for a lot of things. If you don't already know how, I recommend researching how to use them in your 3D program of choice. Note that not all programs can use them, which is why we ask for a baked copy of the textures to be provided when possible.
Enjoy!

Wait, people use Steam and launchers to run Blender? They don't just download Blender from the official website and run it directly? No wonder some people are acting like the 5.0 somehow means the loss of older versions. Blender isn't an operating system or iPhone... you don't have to always own the latest version as soon as it comes out.
I don't think this is that good of a solution because it is still is inconvenient and in fact sound more work than an add-on, and people who use blender just don't want to downgrade it like me, I use it for more than just asset ripping.
Also for the DVD example you are right DAE. Are kind of DVD, but who nowadays people don't own DVD players so what is the point of getting one if you cant use it just like how people who get DAE. cant use them in newest blender.

Okay, I have a better solution that works: The steam version, (And I believe the official launcher. Haven't used in a long time.) Allow you to switch versions.
For Steam right click blender in library, Properties, Betas, finally select beta Participation. You can go early as 3.3, I'm on 4.5!

Yeah DAE isn't dying, at least not for me, as I use it a lot more than FBX. As those are just plain incompatible over time.
DAE is like the DvD's of Rigged models: Hasn't been updated much, but more reliable than streaming as long as you got a DvD player. (Compare the FBX file to streaming there. XD)

Who says DAE is dying? The OBJ format hasn't changed since the '90s and everyone still uses it. Blender devs have never respected DAE enough to write a decent exporter for it, anyway.
Revision would be best for this case.
I want to update already approved models for BattleTanx: GA to add damaged, destroyed and gang color overlay/mask textures. Should I resub everything, resub but skip icon and large image with a note to use the already used images or Revise option since I do have it but that feels kind of wrong.
MY EYES, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
So .OBJ and etc not
DAE is beter?

DAE format's dying as it never got any updates for a long time, leading it to be slowly removed from existence.
Blender's devs removed native support for this file format for safety issue (after all, a dae file's just an xml file...so malicious code could be added in)

Yeah, but the point was that yes you still can do that but lots of people who go to the website for models who use blender aren't going to go and do all the work just so they can get a model and mostly like another format will be in there so they won't even bother. Like if I just downloaded a model and found a .DAE that I can't import without finding some add-on or a .FBX or .OBJ im just going to pick the easier rought. Also, this is not some hate thing on how .DAE were bad because there were fine. Also the .FBX support is build in and turned on by default.
.DAE is still "supported" if you use a plug in, similar to how you get .FBX and .STL!
Just to clarify, the viewer isn’t built to function as a renderer. It doesn’t handle materials, lighting, transparency, etc, and I highly doubt it will be expanded in that direction. It’s only meant for previewing a model before downloading. All icons still need to be rendered manually in full 3D software.
Hey because of the new blender update .DAE is no longer supported now.I feel like this is a problem because now no models can be import and exported as .DAE for people who use blender. I know there is probably an add-on out already that would let you export them now, but I think a lot of people who just use the website for models now are just going to ignore .DAE and find it too much work to import the models with that and will probably use .FBX or .OBJ instead if the download included it.
I know the .DAE is a good format, but I feel like now we can't just include something that a majority of people who use blender are not going to use and can't even import it. I feel like it's a good time to replace .DAE with .GBL/GLTF as it is a good format and is still supported by blender and is even used on the site now as the 3D view for models.
Overall even though other 3D tools exist like MAYA or Zbrush who might be able to import .DAE I don't use them, so I wouldn't know I still feel like the .DAE is going to be a dead format and .GBL/GLTF are a better replacement

A model-viewer icon renderer would be quite nice. I imagine it basically showing a "window" of where the icon would be lined up relative to the camera view and a button to render into a PNG.
The only other thing I think the model-viewer needs is support for vertex colors, as those do not seem to render despite them rendering in Blender.

That's what I mean, would it be possible to add this function?
No. Rendering through software like Blender lets the submitter use transparency for proper icons. With the model viewer, there’s no way to actually render an image of the model.
I'd like to make a suggestion. Since there's a model viewer in the website now, would it be possible to just take the screenshot for the thumbnail through the viewer instead of making each one of them individually in Blender?
Alrighty! Thank you very much!

I use to use the standalone blender, but wanted to track how much Time I run in it. XD
Version swapping was a pro I didn't know about!
