@Izu_Tabasu Wrong. The SNES WAS able to render polygons without the Super FX, that much is true, but games that did that either ran worse than with the Super FX chip, and/or had to be simpler without it. ALTTP for example, only drew the crsytals holding the 7 maidens, and the Triforce, which are incredibly simple. The super FX chip itself is what processes and draws the 3d models onto the screen, while the SNES handles the background graphics and audio

@gobro9000 Super FX has nothing to do with rendering 3D models in the SNES, A Link to the Past's triforce is a 3D model, for example. Same witht the crystals you collect by completing Dark World's dungeons. A lot of SNES games has polygons here and there without needing a special chip.

@gobro9000: It's still the SNES at the end of the day, there's no need to name it as such.

How many SNES games are there that use 3D models?

@matthewmangan: More like, they aren't models like the car bodies so flat sprites are used instead but they're still part of the render buffer and thus are still handled by Super FX, not by the SNES (double so when you consider they scale which would mean double work for the SNES). The way the carts are rendered in e.g. Diddi Kong Racing is similar, for that matter.

i'm gonna assume the eyes and wheels are done by the stock snes rather than the super fx using textured billboards

this game is impressive-texturing and LOD on the snes
