@PeachesCastle: Only at the beginning of the game and at the end, for the rest of the game he's in paper form and uses sprites just like everyone else. Having a high-poly model for specific instances isn't always an optimization problem.

Apparently it's to get him super smooth but surely there's other ways to do that. Smooth shading, beveling, it's wild that Nintendo used so many tris on such a simple model, especially when he's on-screen at all times. Nintendo's usually the king of optimisation
