Sorry, that was a model error. My mushroom cap is a hat

I propose a third option. Note how easy it is to pull the top off of a mushroom. I propose that it is not a hat, that it is a part of their body, but they can take it off and grow a new one (or reattach the old and it grows together again). This process only causes mild discomfort, unless the Toad has done it multiple times before.

im convinced its like how noses have no bones and theyre just really soft parts of their heads

ew

Toads have TOES?

Nintendo can retcon all they want, but it will always be a hat to me!
Also, this model suggests that Toad has a nose and legs, but no toes! :O

Nintendo of course retconning the superior rules the GCN and early Wii games followed as usual. It just led to hats on Toads looking incredibly awkward in later games :/

@LyC TTYD's conductor still didn't seem to have one.

I think we're wrong, in an interview of Captain Toad Treasure Tracker I think they said it's part of his head, so maybe they just don't have bones on the mushroom...

@LyC Or a fleshy protrusion. Anyways, the Paper Mario games already showed that it is, in fact, a hat.

but this means... toad's mushroom is a hat!

i didn't knew toad had teeth

But he's a mushroom....they don't have bones
In fact, he doesn't even have teeth

This is truly the stuff of nightmares. "O_O"

See, people? Toad's not fat, he's big-boned.
But anyway, why did they have to give a cartoonish character like Toad a realistic skeleton? Just...WHYYYYYYYY?!?
