Those were toads.
@Altzer The things on the ground in front of the castle were. Toadsworth can't fly.
Only time I can think of this being used is for the intro cutscene where the tiny indistinguishable pixels flock around the castle... but wasn't it confirmed that those were just the Toadsworth model?
