It could be worked around if I actually translated the bones instead of just rotating them, tho
Maybe cuz this wasnt made for SFM
I tried this model port in SFM and the hair looked off when moving the bones, so I was hoping it was a fluke and that wasn't like that in the raw port... boy was I wrong.
If a model is naturally in separate pieces, it is fine to leave them as separate model files. Combining models leads to problems if not done correctly.
You can submit revisions to models, just click the pencil icon to the right of the model name.
