ProxyDoug is correct. Animating the dress to bend into a sitting position in a realistic way would require a whole bunch of extra polygons and bones, which is just a big waste of resources. Even modern Mario games use similar tricks for things like hand poses and facial expressions.

I haven't checked the models, but she likely doesn't have a hip and they wanted to get the shape just right
lmao why did they make a seperate model for her sitting? Is hip movement not included in the rig?
