Luigi's Stranger Odyssey

Here is this month's model tip: there is more than one way to repeat a texture! Normally, if a model's UVs are bigger than the texture, the image repeats over and over in all direction. However, with mirrored or seamless tiling, the repeated images are reversed. This allows game developers to, for example, only draw half of a circle, and mirror tiling will turn it into a full circle. Keep in mind that, for most cases, OBJ and DAE model formats will not preserve this tiling setting. If you open a model up and half of a character's face looks messed up, don't worry! You probably just need to enable mirror tiling.
Anyway, enjoy!

@Smakkohooves: "At random?" TSR updates every Saturday, as Ya Block said.

@Smakkohooves tsr updates every saturnday from what i seen

@Smakkohooves ah cool. Don't really use tSR regularly enough to know that but either way they're different mediums. 3D models require lengthier moderation than 2D sprites

@peachcastle the sprite resource is updated at random like 3 times at month

@Smakkohooves hope you're joking... happens first Saturday of every month but can be any time that day

6 april and no update yet

@PeachesCastle Just a quick reminder that you can edit your comments - just click the pencil icon to add more to an already posted comment rather than posting a new one (unless there's a reason to, like you're trying to reply to two different people and want to keep those replies separate).

Rome wasn't built in a day and there's plenty of enjoyment to be had from the rips that do get approved. If anything, the backlogs help ensure long-term engagement: there's always something new to find on this site
Edit to include second comment, thanks Petie:
People also have to realise that the staff are unpaid volunteers with lives outside of this site. Their willingness to help out as much as they are speaks volumes. And unfortunately, given the nature of this site, the submission process needs to be approval based. To stop troll submissions and because 3D models are a lot more complicated than things like sprites and textures: there's a lot more room for error if things aren't ripped properly. Backfaces, N-Gons, mismatched UVs, faulty rigs etc

What are you talking about? Over 800 were accepted in just this update. There have been 553 accepted since then. The problem is just that we just get way more submissions than we can process in a timely manner.

Should we wait until at least 500 get accepted, before more subms come?

Yes, there are more pending models than any other type of submission. Sounds is getting close at nearly 4,000 as I write this comment though.

Are the submissions on Models Resource more "clogged" with models than the other resources tbh?

@Law17: We are currently overwhelmed with 5300+ submissions, so it will take time to get to those December submissions.

hey so I noticed there were a bunch of splatoon 3 models that have been pending for months im pretty sure, are they coming in april next update?

Mathematically precise UV manipulation is a different story. If it's done correctly, it's fine. But as soon as someone uses their cursor to move or resize UVs, that's when the model's integrity is compromised.

If the mirrored tiling is on the X and Y you scale down the UV Map by 50% at the center of the texture. This can be done in Blender with precision so no guess work. Than enlarging the canvas of the texture by 2 (Ex: 256x256 becomes 512x512) while keeping the original texture at the center and not scaled up. Than fill in the blank space around the original texture doing flipping and mirroring.
The BMDView2 program that is used to read and export Nintendo .BMD and .BDL dose this when it see a material that uses mirrored tiling.

@AJD-262: Manually editing UVs is also prone to error, which is why we don't accept models that have had their UVs manually altered.

Mirrored tiling and the comment it gets is why I sort of gave up on TP, SwS and BOTW extracts. I can fix the UV map quickly most of the time but hand enlarging the canvas and doing flip and mirror of textures just sucks the life out of me.

Wait, S***, The Easter Bunny forgot to put chocolate eggs in my house

Happy Chocolate Bunny month everybody x
