comment(38) Stand against racism, hate, and police brutality - #BlackLivesMatter

Last week, Ton left you with a simple message - Black Lives Matter. This isn’t just a statement, a group of protesters, or a movement; it’s a fact and one that’s unfortunately being regularly ignored. It’s sad that this even needs to be said in 2020 but I think the current state of the country makes it clear that not everyone is on the same page.

I’d like to quickly address the negativity displayed in the comments of last week’s update. Neither we nor anyone else using the phrase “Black Lives Matter” is suggesting that they matter more. They don’t claim that they’re the only victims of police brutality or the only targets of ignorance, hate, and racism. They simply want an end to the systemic racism they experience on a day-to-day basis, especially at the hands of the police, and that is something that everyone should be able to agree with unequivocally.

So I’ll leave you with this: We at The VG Resource stand with Black Lives Matter and against racism and police brutality. The changes they’re pushing for will benefit everyone and they deserve the justice they’re seeking. If these statements somehow offend you, nobody is forcing you to stay but remember this moment when you find yourself on the wrong side of history. And if you are choosing to be on the wrong side of history and are in fact just racist, do us all a favor and leave.

No new content will be highlighted in this update out of respect and in an effort to avoid distracting from the issue at hand. Instead, take a look here to see how you can help if you feel so inclined.

I actively avoid social media so that I wont have to read the same "racism is bad" posts over and over, but now it seems most of my hobby sites are the same.

I want to go at least one day without reading about police brutality or racism. If that puts me "on the wrong side of history." then so be it.

Plus the RSS feed only goes so far back compared to a real update, and twitter updates can get lost in the feed.

@KrakenOfTheSea It shouldn't be, I agree. But it depends on context. In the context of a small website that focuses on ripping video game assets most real world discussion is taboo, and most people just want to escape from the shittiness of reality and not have to think about it everywhere they go.

@_vissova_ human rights aren't supposed to be political, lmao. also, Peardian brings up a good point that these updates are just recaps of recent uploads; you can look at @tMRU on Twitter or the RSS feed if you're desperate for new models

@KrakenOfTheSea Gee I wonder why making a strong political post in a place that isn't entirely appropriate for it might stir up a little controversy? I wonder why waiting long periods of time for updates that are very far between just to be met with more tiring politics in a place meant for video game hobbies might be a bit disappointing for the average user? Hmmm.

Yes, but that doesn't mean we know what they all are. We count on these updates to get us up to date on what was recently uploaded. Plus we don't all have a way to read an RSS feed.

To everyone complaining about the lack of content in the update: you do realize that that the updates are just recaps of what has been recently uploaded, right? Just because this this post doesn't have any models listed below it doesn't mean nothing has been uploaded. I've spent all of my free time in the past two months processing over 1000 submissions.

The fact that saying 'Black Lives Matter' causes controversy is a bit disheartening

@TentacleSlime Don't we all? They could've handled it better. Anyhow I hope all the post in each resources gets updated or change for the better AND I DO MEAN ALL OF IT.

@yanm1103 agreed, we need a new site for this, since that's not this site's priority.

Oh boy. I really, REALLY wish there was an alternative site for people to post ripped 3D models.

Isn't it a bit tacky to take this stand this strongly on a website dedicated to video game models? Don't get me wrong; I 100% agree with the message you're putting out, but wouldn't a regular post with a link at the bottom be a better way to handle it? Also, will all the models that would have been featured be in the next update?

Might as well leave this here. If anyone is interested in specific charities that are designed for specific purposes, here are a few I've donated to:

https://www.joincampaignzero.org/ - If you prefer policy based solutions, and want to support candidates that promote police policy reforms, campaign zero is dedicated to exactly this.
https://www.knowyourrightscamp.com/ - Know your rights is a community based program designed to help disparaged black communities that suffer through economic disparity. This includes community building guidance program, and in some cases legal assistance to black communities.
https://www.communityjusticeexchange.org/nbfn-directory - If you prefer giving money directly to people, the NBF Network helps pay legal fees for people who can't afford it. Blacks in particular are susceptible to being overcharged legal fees and entering a debt cycle that can lead to disproportionately longer sentences.

@Speggethus I agree with this. However, the link in this post (which doesn't seem to be working now - a mirror is at https://web.archive.org/web/20200530080648/https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/) lists various fundraisers you can donate to, for which it is very obvious where your money is going.

Don't donate to blm until they tell us where that money goes and how it actually helps anyone

This is by far the most empty update ever existed in this site.
You've made a wise choice though.
