It's still unreal that this is a model.

If it's fully triangulated, that would be 8 faces.
If it has quads, that's 5 faces.
If it has quads, that's 5 faces.

I had suspected these and the crystals were 3D models. As strange as it may sound, 3D was able to be done without the lauded Super FX chip (although not nearly as well)
In fact 3D games were possible as far back as the OG gameboy in things like Faceball 2000, and on the NES in a unreleased Hard Drivin' port. These of course ran terribly slow, especially compared to today's games, but they existed. Pretty cool if ya ask me.
