I would love to get more info on this. Not sure if I can be of much help in terms of your work on VIF, but I can definitely do some Blender magic if needed. I have a gut feeling that from what I have observed while extracting the monster models, the geometry data would describe at least a vertex format consisting of an XYZ position, UV coordinates for textures, and RGB vertex colors (as observed in some of the coloration in the Immortal type monster models). Correct me if I am wrong.

I know exactly where the 3d model files for each monster are and where inside it are bones, geometry, animations textures and camera movement/paths.
That said the file format for each section is only partially known , I have figured how to read the location of each section their lengths and other data about them, but i have no experience in 3d modelling to know what kind of mesh data I'm looking at, I'm fairly certain but not 100% that parts of the mesh written in pre made ps2 VIF packets, in which case would require something that would unpack and reading it/ emulate how the ps2 GS handles it and then convert it into whatever format you want. I would happy to share all the info I have on this, as I would love to see fully animated models extracted for the game both for preservation and to help push the modding scene to the next level.

As far as my process for extracting the models, I used a special build of the PCSX2 emulator which has a feature to dump the 3D data from the GPU memory and save it as a model, dumped the data to Blender, cleaned up excess geometry in the scene, removed unused textures, and manually corrected scaling issues from the dump. Since Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses has a model viewer that has a consistent camera position, I was able to figure out the best scaling offsets for XYZ to get consistent scaling for all the monsters. As far as geometry and texture cleanup goes in Blender, I actually developed my own add-ons with the purpose of selecting background geometry and textures and removing them. Unfortunately, this extraction process does not preserve things like rigging or animation, nor does it give me T-pose models. If there is a way to get the raw geometry data from the .iso file, I would love to know.

Amazing work!, Im wondering would you mind adding my on discord and talking about how you extracted them, I have looked at it before and extracted most of the assets from the game already but i have some issues with certain 3d model textures monster and non monster, im wondering if you have those too, and how you dealt with the VIF packets in the model file?
For reference im currently the maintainer for the newest modding tool for the game.

Hello, I am GOD well God-Cat Aka CardMaster or CardMaster99 on other websites i would like to thank (@3D mage) for his work here i am currently working to remake Yu-Gi-Oh Dulist of the Roses for PC on Unity using and at this stage am in desperate need of some assets for testing so thank you so much personally because this is amazing , this is exactly what I needed to push thru to phase three of my project and test it all well keeping it looking satisfying visually until it's time to animate and polish Ui effects, Again Thank You So Mutch for all you've done.

Several of the female models are fairly different in japan, but others are just textures, Dark Magician girl for example has a totally removed chest in english, maiden of the aqua was hit hard too, not that shes on here yet

Some of them actually do, mostly in the form of alternate colors. I have not gone around to extracting those yet, but maybe in the future, I might!

I do wonder is any of the monsters have a different model in the japanese version...

I have extracted, fixed and textured Dark Magician Girl (not t-posed) but I'm not happy with how it turned out? I can see why people gave up on this method as the model exports with a lot of weird problems that you have to manually fix by eye. Like the UV unwrapping seems to not only be divided by some non-integer number, but sometimes the unwrap will be warped/skewed! Other issues involve the models' normals, smoothing groups, scale, and it ends up warped/skewed slightly

Wow, this is quite the process and I'm afraid my PC doesn't have the required specs. Getting the textures is fine, the modern version of PCSX2 does that easy, no problem but the 3D models requires you to use version 0.9.8, and the plugins it comes with as you can only generate OBJ files if you're using DirectX 9 (Software) rendering. Not only that, but the exported OBJ file is a still frame of the model/scene, meaning that if you want the model to be in its default pose (eg, a T-pose), you'll need to make a cheat code that does that to the model before you create the OBJ file.

I'm going to see if I can find a way to extract one of the monsters and upload it here. Wish me luck!
