I am good with the basic maps and tcl/2cl. It's the ones like mlta/hlt, trm, thc, rft, and fxm that confuse me because I don't know how to set up the nodes for those. I will try to look up tutorials for thc and trm, I thought none existed before, glad to be wrong! I'll be honest and say I never used the forums, but if I need more help I'll try figuring that out too. Thank you both!

@Inferry
These are indeed color mask textures
They are used for the inkspots on the surface of the model
The Teamcolortextures are for the colorvariation - because Nintendo cant make 1000 textures for only one model
Textures they i would count as difficult are .fxm textures, because every model use them on a different way

@Jasper7438 I am to assume you are not very experienced with materials and textures/maps?
Albedo, Normal, Roughness, Metalness, Emission and Ambient Occlusion maps are all very common type of textures used quite commonly by many games, you should have no problem finding tutorials on how they work or how to make/use them in Blender or other software if you google the name and add Blender to your search query
Thickness and Transmission Maps are less common, but tutorials do exist for Blender on how to use them or make them.
Inked(2cl) and Team Color Maps sound like color masks to me, you use them to indicate which parts should be colorized by the color parameter in the material's options, they are quite common too.
The only odd ones are the Effects, Multi Texture(which seems to be in part detail textures, common as well) and Lightwarps; these seem to vary from case to case.
I would have to look at the model in question in-game to try and see how they work, but they don't seem that complicated from the description on the page you gave.
Edit: It seems like Yam beat me to the punch, still if you need help, send me a pm in the forums.

of course :D
You helped me with the animations and I think it's only fair if I try to help with the textures as best I can
But I will need some time for
And possibly with a few grammatical errors because I am a German and do not speak the English language well yet
I think I will divide up the tutorials
So you have enough time to try out the new information and I can make new tutorials during the process
The first tutorial should be the use of the usual textures (.alb .mtl .spm .rgh .nrm)
and a Splatoon texture like cl2 ( the cl2 /cl3 textures looking really weird but are usefull if you know how tu use them )

@Yan If it's no much trouble for you, could you explain and/or show how to use the Splatoon 2 textures in Blender? It would be so useful!
I didn't know I don't have to duplicate the shader, but it worked so I never bothered learning another method. I'll try yours now, thank you for informing us of this!
You can apply the .smd animations to .fbx models downloaded here from the models resource using Blender Source Tools, but this oftentimes causes weird errors, so I'm looking for a better conversion method. I use Marina in my tutorial videos because she seems to be mostly immune from these errors for whatever reason...

@mrs puh'f I promise I didn't forget your question about extracting animations! I have finally been able to fix some issues I was having...
• You're going to have to download Smash Forge and, if needed, download Blender Source tools and install the addon into Blender.
• Next, you'll have to download some Splatoon model data. After a fair bit of digging I found this treasure trove on mega.nz, just try not to do what I did and try to download it all at once because, 1. It took forever [I'm talking hours, maybe it's my internet] 2. It tried to make me wait another hour to finish because I don't have a paid account and passed the limit of data transfer or whatever, so at that point I canceled the whole download. Just download individual files, it's much quicker.
So yeah, just watch this little video tutorial I made if you need more guidance and you should be good. :D
Edit: I forgot to mention how to edit the offscreen animations to be in the center of the 3d space [origin] so here's a mini-tutorial for that too. :)

1. Splatoon 2 uses not Unreal Engine 4
2. I know how to extract animations but i unfortunaly dont know how to use them
3. I know how to use all textures (except rft.) an maybe can help with the others
4. you dont hav to duplicate the shader, you can use an mix rgb node and the tcl texture as factor aswell
There is a way to extract the animations as smd (Source Animation Data) file, but i dont know how to use them in Blender
I use Blender now for a long time, but here i cant help too

thanks!!! i can't believe how generous you are when helping others in need, these tutorials helped me a lot and now I've got the hang of it, thanks! :)
umm I'm sorry if this sounds kinda ungrateful for how much you've done for me but i was wondering if you have a tutorial for extracting the animations or if theres like a certain website, the message that you sent about that topic was a little but hazy for me...
theres something I've noticed within pearls hair "speckles" theres like a "map" of some sorts that shifts as pearls hair jiggles? am i the only one... or can anyone explain.
wait i figured it out, i think... is it a hlt file

@mrs puh'f As for coloring the hair/tentacles, or any other model with changing colors [like eyes/clothes] it's not hard at all! Just follow this little video tutorial I made showing how to set up the nodes and you'll get it in no time. As for extracting the animations from the concerts, as cool as that would be, is impossible. The data for the idol models/animations is probably locked in some Nintendo archive. But that doesn't stop anyone from making fan made recreations! As an aside, I'm sorry if my explanations are too long sometimes.

@mrs puh'f Sad to say, but because because Blender and Splatoon do not share the same engine, the best we can get is an approximation of how the graphics look in Splatoon. Blender and Splatoon use many of the same types of textures, but some of them are special to Splatoon's engine [which is created and privately owned by Nintendo]. We approximate the look of Splatoon by putting together all of the textures to make a material similar to that of Splatoon's, however Splatoon's special texture types can make this difficult [examples include trm, fxm, hlt, and rft, I don't know how to use these nor know if they even can be used in Blender]. This is the reason why SFM/GMOD Splatoon renders look very different from the game. This website details the various uses of Splatoon 2's textures, but it doesn't give me much clue as how to use them in Blender. Anyone who can help with that would be a godsend!

so what i am referring to by my second question is how to get the same look of splatoon's graphic engine*how it looks like in game* for example, search up splatoon archives, then photos of pictures taken in splatoon, vs searching up splatoon sfm or splatoon gmod
oh and when i mentioned the hair i meant like the jigglyness of it
and FINAL question, can you extract the dancing animations of the idols concerts, *the holograms*
oh and fyi i think platoon 2 uses unreal engine 4

@mrs puh'f Can you clarify what you mean by those? Your first question, I assume you are asking how to color the hair, which I can definitely show you how to do. The second one is a mystery to me, lol.

omg thank you so much!!!
and one more thing, how do you input nodes to change the tcl files for the hair, and how do you make a 3D platform, for example blender make an effect close to the graphics engine of splatoon, like to get the same effect

@mrs puh'f I'm not Centrixe but I can answer your questions! 1. the texture for the color in Marina's fingers [in her normal outfit] is "m_skin_emm", basically the same as tcl but for glowing parts of a material. 2. If you can get your hands on some Splatoon 2 data, there's many tutorials out there for ripping models. Like this one for Mario Odyssey, As for animations, there's probably a switch model viewer you can search for that supports exporting of animations. 3. The hair physics are not included with the models [I don't think that's possible :( ], but they have all the bones, so you can move her hair but you'll have to do it manually. Hope that helps :)

so @Centrix, i have a few questions, can't find the tcl files for marinas fingers, i was wondering how to rip animations, and if pearls hair physics is already ripped in to the models information/code

No s__t! @Centrixe Thanks!

@pixlnxt True, but I don't see Agent 8's clothing in her files.

@Optimus97 Agent 8 is just the Octoling under Playable Characters.
Speaking of which though, maybe the enemy octoling and octopus should be renamed since they share the same file names as the playable octoling and octopus

Still would love to see Agent 8 here.
