If the model and item used to make this game mechanic was changed, we wouldn’t stray further from the best timeline daily.
@eddmario: Because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe uses mostly the exact same models as the original game. We've had vanilla Mario Kart 8's model for over a decade, and I don't believe there were any differences with 8DX's model.

@Gregory561 King Bob-Omb was in Mario Kart Tour, which has character and kart models similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so they could have made it work. And Honey Queen was mainly hated for being a random addition that essentially replaced everyone's beloved Waluigi, but since he is in this game, she would probably have been an acceptable addition. Besides, Wiggler's in this game and people are cool with them while many were confused and upset when they were in 7.

Besides, King Bob-Omb is too big and round to ride a kart or a bike, Honey Queen is way bigger than him and she's the most hated character from Mario Kart 7.
