@xSuperMario64x go into the shading tab on top bar and select the eye material. All you have to do is connect the alpha output of the image texture to the principled BDSF alpha input. When I loaded this in blender, the material settings were weird as well, and I had to set all of the materials' metallic, roughness, and IOR values to 1 in the materials tab of the sidebar.

The First Thing I remember about SMG4, and back then SMG4 was Good

WE ALL THOUGH HE WAS BAUAU OR CHOMP CHOMP

i made a pac man with this it pending

@xSuperMario64x You can not fix the eyes in Blender, it uses an alpha that cuts around the eye shape. If you look at the textures (not the displayed ones you can find the real ones on the Texture Resourse) it'll have a black circle on it. It cuts around the black circle and then cuts it on the eye texture. To change it you can just download the texture from Textures Resource and use the magic wand in photoshop (or most photo edtors) on the texture on Tolerance 0 around the eye.

@xSuperMario64x SUPER late reply, but they could've gone the "Spyro" route and had a mouth superimposed over the sphere sprite. Then they could've animated it by
A. Either cropping or scaling the mouth opening and closing.
or
B. Having a sequence of sprites to make up the animation.
This idea isn't too ok far fetched because the Bullies eyes, Wiggler's mouth, and Amp's face all use this trick. The problem with both of these methods is because of the primitive technology, they couldn't give the illusion of its mouth being open, revealing objects behind the sprite from a side profile.

@TheMorningFlash15 prob just to save space.
I'm still wondering about how to fix the squares around the eyes in Blender...

WHAT THE *censored* IS A SONIC

@xSuperMario64x That's not what I meant. I meant if the N64 could render the Chain Chomp as a full model, why couldn't it do the same with other spherical objects?

@TheMorningFlash15 It's probably because they had to make it so that he could open and close his mouth. If he didn't have to do that then he would probably be a sphere.

I always wondered why the chomp is fully rendered, yet other spherical objects (Such as Bob Ombs) are 2D Sprites.

Question: When I look at the model in Blender there are squares around the eyes, and I can't add the subsurf modifier without applying it to the whole model.
How can I make the eyes round or make the squares "transparent"?

You know, as much as I love this enemy, I don't think I've ever been so disappointed with a model as I am with this one.
