More polygons mean more time the N64 has to take to draw each one, meaning more lag, and therefore, lower framrates. While one ore two extra polygons is negligible, here we're talking potentially hundreds of polygons if there are four players at once. And because multiplayer has four different viewports... Well, that's a lot of system resources.

@Filler I'm pretty sure these arent exclusive to the multiplayer. They are probably LOD Meshes for the characters that are only active from a distance.

Presumably because lower quality models cause less strain on the Nintendo 64 for when multiple animated stuff is on screen.

I always wondered why RareWare made low-quality models for multiplayer mode... Also, where's the nose?
