I always like to think of the Mario Kart/spinoff King Boo design as being an illusion created by this King Boo, which would explain why he has a different appearance in the spinoffs.
Given it was a Mario Kart game that introduced the cheap design in the first place, that very well may happen. TBH, though, his LM1 design was kinda clunky, the jewel was awkwardly large. LMDM fixed that though.
Hopefully with the real King Boo finally making his debut, the cheap "bigger Boo with crown" will be phased out soon.
That's one evil lookin motherfucker
