@SpyrotheDragon2021 Most likely the opposite is true, that they made the soccer ball to test out object physics for stuff like fruit. Most likely they were always gonna have a soccer ball fruit and the durian won out since it already looks like something Mario shouldn't touch.
Durians smell so bad, that I've heard people have tried to use them to fake being dead in jail, rubbing them on their body to give the stench of their "corpse".
