This just makes my teeth hurt looking at it. (I do have a decent dental hygiene)
My favorite boss in the game. I don't think they wanted to cause any real harm... they just had dental problems that needed sorting out.
@jajaja24: It's not closed off, just hard to see from outside. Eely-Mouth already swallows Mario as an attack, so they probably planned to have the camera follow Mario inside.
Fun fact: the eel actually has a fully modeled stomach that's completely closed off, probably reminscent of an earlier version in which it was involved.
