As for the thumbnail render, I believe the exterior texture of the body might be Super Mario Sunshine's in-game shaders from these colors: red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, blue and purple.
Nah, it's the blob of goop that spatters when they land. I thought the thing shown here was the unused "egg" they appear from when Hinokuri spawns them.
The sphere is actually the Gooble’s nucleus, or its brain.

"Gooble" is a name on a scorecard in Toadstool Tour that isn't actually assigned to anything specific. The only name in English it has ever officially been specified as is Swoopin' Stu.
