I'm highly tempted to take this approach for my Paper Mario project instead of the sprite approach! ..... Well... Almost...

Random render I made of him. Use if you want. I did use turbosmooth and made the M emblem higher quality, though.

This is SO weird to see. Yet it works.
Add some outlines, and then flatten him up like Smash Game and Watch., and you got a 3D paper Mario.
