the characters actually work very similar, in fact it's their first project with them especially since the characters also use shape keys/flexes

So, I take it the models are in a different format compared to Nick/DreamWorks then.

Not exactly; while Bamtang did develop this like the NKR games/DWASKR, this one was made in Unity. NKR 1 and 2 were in Vector Engine (from what I know), and NKR3 and DWASKR were in Unreal Engine 4

This game is basically a reskin of Nickelodeon Kart Racers/DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing from what I can tell.

I didn't want to manipulate the models beyond exporting them or remove props while there are bones that use them, which is why the steering wheel and other character objects are included. Characters use mixes of A-Pose and T-Pose, LOD models are originally in a driving pose and I didn't want to use the highres model for preview, esp since some are not originally in the driving pose, which would break consistency.

side note: the way these models were ripped is that they only have the second highest lod model, the actual highest quality models have the characters a-pose and have their steering wheels from the side, like in the dreamworks and nickelodeon kart racing games, and the karts have no steering wheels themselves due to that
