In their defense, Godzilla is awesome
It still genuinely irritates me to this day. How could they think Ghostbusters wouldn't be interesting for the audience and then choose to reference GODZILLA, of all things?
What people don't understand is that the regional differences weren't because of Copyright, in an interview it was revealed they replaced every Ghostbusters-related thing in the game because they felt the Ghost Busters references were just "not interesting for their intended age group" Columbia never contacted them AT ALL about it.

Busters localization is wild... A ton of regional differences to avoid copyright issues
And many easy ways to watch the cartoons now. (Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters)
Not to mention it's crazy popular in Japan. Hence why we got games like Luigi's Mansion as it's about hunting ghosts and makes references to Ghostbusters.
