low poly sports mix mario

Nintendo tends to do that a lot with their textures for convenience, like... saving space, for example! Here's what you can do in Internal to replicate the same effect.

To clarify: enable "X" and "Y" in the image mapping tab (sometimes just one of them - and it's pretty rare when you have to change how many times they repeat) and check "Alpha" in the influence tab. After that, it should be good to go.

It looks like this model uses some strange interpretation of mirroring the texture to map things like the tailpipes and engine block. Blender doesn't seem to play nice with this. Is there a way to fix that, or a setting in Blender I could use to recreate it?
